Furminator Large
If you are in the process of getting a cat for your home, there are a few things you should consider when selecting your feline. The breeds are very different, so the breed you get will depend on the type of personality and hair length. The items to consider are:
1. Do you want a chatty cat or one that is relatively quite. Most male cats of all breeds tend to be more chatty than the female of the breed. One of the loudest in vocal cords, is the Siamese. One of the quietest breeds is the American Curl. So depending on how vocal you want your cat to be, there are many selections out there.
2. Another thing to consider, is do you want a long hair or short hair breed. I have both kinds in my house. Our Maine Coone is a long hair breed and takes extra care, mainly in brushing. With long hair cats, you need to brush them once or twice a week. Not only will you keep them groomed, but you will also minimize hair balls. Short hair cats should be brushed also, but mainly just to keep them well groomed. The short hair breeds can get hair balls too, but not as prevalent as in long hair breeds.
3. Another thing to consider is the cats natural instinct to scratch. This can be controlled by providing a scratching post. To get the cat to use the scratching post, I sprinkle the post with cat nip. Cats love it and your furniture is saved.
These are just some of the items to consider. So if you do decide to get a cat, get one from your local animal shelter. They have a large selection of breeds.
A good hair brush to use on your cat is a Furminator and a good scratching post is the Emery Cat. I use both of these for my cats and after much trial and error with other products, find these best.
